It is popularly known as Dahi Handi in Mumbai. It literally translates to a pot of yogurt! This day marks the birthday of Lord Krishna. When Krishna was a little boy, Yashoda his foster mother, would hide her pot of yogurt and cream high up in the house, hoping that it would be out of reach of her mischievous baby. Krishna would however, resort to all sorts of tricks to lay hands on his favourite food. During the celebration of Dahi Handi, a similar pot is strung high up between buildings. Teetering, precarious human pyramids form, as high-spirited groups attempt to reach and smash the coveted pot! Read full story on Dahi Handi Celebrations
